What 5,000 bits cost to buy
Bits are sold in bundles. The smallest bundle, 100 bits, costs $1.40; larger bundles carry discounts that bring the per-bit price down toward $0.01 at the 25,000-bit tier. A fan cheering 5,000 bits has therefore spent somewhere between $52.50 and $70.00 depending on how they bought them, and the streamer receives $50.00 either way.

Bits versus subs for the streamer
Per dollar spent by the fan, bits return more to the creator than subs: a $5.99 Tier 1 sub yields about $3.00, while the same money spent on bits (about 428 bits at the small-bundle price) yields $4.28. Cheered bits are also paid out through the same monthly schedule and count toward the $50 payout minimum.

Common questions
How much do 5,000 bits cost?
Roughly $70.00 at the standard rate of about $1.40 per 100 bits. Larger bundles are discounted, so the exact price depends on how the fan bought them.
How much is 5,000 bits worth to a streamer?
$50.00. Twitch pays creators a flat $0.01 for every bit cheered in their channel, regardless of what the fan paid for the bundle.
Do bits expire?
Bits in a viewer's balance do not expire. Once cheered, they are credited to the streamer's revenue for that month.
